FIRST ROBOTICS
Brebeuf has its own FIRST Robotics Program! FIRST Robotics is where high schoolers design, build, and code robots to compete in alliance-style competitions! FIRST allows students to develop real-world skills in engineering, manufacturing, coding, marketing, and much more! IT AP program simulates an FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) team to students, which design, build, and code their robot and document their process in a 15-page journal.
Additionally, we have our very own FTC team, 18846 Brebotics! They are a school team run by Ms. Annetta (Room 128) where they build and code their robot, do many outreach and volunteer in our schools and FIRST events! Since 2020, Brebotics has won 20 awards and had two rookie teams, #24418 Canoe and #22543 Split-Bot, qualified for Provincials last year!
Computer Engineering (ICS3U)
As part of the IT AP program, we take Computer Engineering course in grade 10 teaching IT AP students about electrical engineering in a hands-on learning environment! In this course, you will learn about:
-
electrical engineering components and concepts (electrical gates, LEDS, chips)
-
soldering wires
-
Creating a circuit board
-
Assembling a motor
-
Learning and using different engineering tools (drill press, soldering iron, etching solution)
It is a fun course for students who enjoy hands-on learning and those interested in engineering. Additionally, IT AP students are more engaged and interested in pursuing engineering careers and trades including but not limited to:
-
Mechanical Engineering
-
Software engineering
-
Computer Science
SKILLS CANADA
We also do Skills Canada in the aspects of: Robotics, Computer Science, and Networking! IT AP students in TIJ classes also compete in Skills Canada in the robotics section where they build and code a robot, create an electric diagram of their robot's electronics, and stragtize each year's game to be ready for a Skills Canada competition. These students use the concepts they learn from FIRST Robotics class, and implement them into Skills Canada!
We have been competing in Skills Canada since last year and placed 3rd for Networking, 3rd for Robotics, and 2nd for Computer Science!
